All-Natural Mascara
This mascara is great for making your lashes look darker, thicker and fuller. Warning for criers and swimmers- this mascara is definitely not waterproof! But anyways, here's how to make it:
In a small non-stick saucepan, combine 1 teaspoon coconut oil, 1 teaspoon shea butter, 1.5 teaspoons bees wax and 4 teaspoons aloe vera gel, and stir gently until they are completely melted together. Then, mix in 1-2 capsules of activated charcoal (depending on how dark you want the mascara to be) and immediately remove the saucepan from heat. Pour the mixture into a plastic bag and cut a small hole in one of the bag's bottom corners. Squeeze the mixture into a clean, empty mascara tube, and you're done!
DIY Loose or Pressed Chocolate Bronzer
Ever tried the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer? It smells just like chocolate and looks awesome too, but it's pretty dang expensive for a simple matte bronzer. Well, you can actually make your own version at home using cocoa powder! Here's how:
In a small mixing bowl, thoroughly mix a spoonful of cocoa powder (for color and scent) and a sprinkle of cinnamon(to add a glowing effect). Then move the mixture into your container of choice. That's it! If you prefer a pressed version, add a little bit of rubbing alcohol, transfer the mixture from the mixing bowl to a pressed powder container and press it down firmly using a paper towel to absorb the excess rubbing alcohol. Clean up the edges with something sharp and leave it in the fridge or freezer overnight. Done!
Cheek Stains
Cheek stains are awesome because the last super long, as opposed to most powder and cream blushes that make you look like a clown when you put them on but somehow manage to disappear after 3 or 4 hours. How-to:
Mix vegetable or regular glycerin (sold at grocery stores and some convenience stores) with a few drops of red (or pink, or orange, whichever you want or can find) food coloring. Drop several colored lip balms (again, red, pink, orange, whatever you want) in with the glycerin and food coloring and microwave for about one minute or until the balms are thoroughly melted. Then stir and pour the product into a jar or empty lip balm container and allow it to dry. You're done!
Cream or Mousse Concealer
The great thing about cream or mousse concealers is that they have great coverage and dry beautifully. Mousse concealer dries to a powdery finish while cream concealers dry to a more dewy, natural finish. The two formulas have the same ingredients but different ratios, so here's how to do it:
You'll need a loose mineral foundation or skin-colored face powder. For a mousse-y texture, mix 2 parts loose foundation to 1 part moisturizer. For a cream concealer, just use more moisturizer- about 2 parts moisturizer to 1 part powder. When you've created the concealer, transfer the mixture into a small jar or container.
Vanilla Tinted Lip Balm
Most tinted lip balms really aren't too expensive to get from the store, but we can do one better and make it with stuff we already have! You're going to need beeswax, almond oil, vaseline, vanilla oil, lipstick and a container. Here's the instructions:
First, fill a saucepan about 1/4 full with water and place a plastic cup in the boiling water. Then, microwave the beeswax a little bit so that you can more easily cut into it, and then shave off about 1 tablespoon of it. Now place the beeswax into the cup and add 2 tablespoons of almond oil and 1/2 teaspoon of vaseline and mix them together. Remove the cup from the boiling water and shut off the stove. Now you can add about 10 drops of vanilla oil (depending on how strong you want the vanilla scent to be), and about a 3/4 inch slice of your choice of lipstick. The mixture should still be warm at this point, so the lipstick should melt into the mixture. Stir until everything is thoroughly dissolved and blended, and transfer to the container of your choice.
Turn your foundation into a BB Cream
You can pretty much create a BB cream by mixing all the face products you already have- all you have to do is mix 1 part foundation (can be your skin tone or 1 to 2 shades darker) to 1 part skincare products. Use whatever skincare products suit your needs- moisturizer, sunscreen, serum, even primer! Just mix them all together and transfer to a container of your choice.
